R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)

The R.U.R. or Rossum’s Universal Robots story was written by Karel Capek in 1920, and shown at a theatre in Prague in 1921, and was later performed in New York in 1922. The story was later published in English translation in 1923. This is where the term ‘Robot’ was used, and was proceed from the Czech word ‘Robota’ which means ‘work’. While other people said that ‘Robota’ actually means ‘forced workers’ or ‘slaves’. The story is about how machines were created to simulate human beings, by doing all of the human’s jobs. Later on in the story the robots rebelled against their human creators. The images above are some examples of how the robots looked like in the story.
