Metropolis is a silent movie directed by Fritz Lang. The film was made in 1927 in Germany during a secure period of the Weimar Republic. Metropolis is set in a massive futuristic city where the rich live high up in luxurious skyscrapers, and the workers live underground. The autocratic Joh Fredersen runs the city. Like most of the sons of managers in Metropolis, Fredersen's son Freder lives his life in luxury, but after seeing how the workers are treated he begins to try and help them. During this time the scientist Rotwang, who lives in an old house in the lower levels of the city, is constructing a ‘Machine-Man’ (Robot) to replace workers.
This is one of the best films I have ever seen. The imagery in the film is amazing, the tall skyscrapers, the machines used to run the city and the robot. It shows how life could possalbe be like in the future. This film has influenced so many people, and it will continue to do so.
