A couple of weeks ago I emailed Alexis Marcou a few questions, and he got back to me. This is his reply.
Hello Stephen,
Sorry for delaying to your questions for so long. Thank you, I appreciate your comments.
Q.) What’s your favourite illustration/commission you have work on?
A.) My favourite illustration commission up to now is a project done for Nike. Unfortunately I can't display the illustrations anywhere yet because the t-shirts aren't going to be produced by Nike until the Spring. They asked me to do 3 illustrations for them.
Q.) You sometimes use text in your illustrations do you think about the layout before you start an illustration, or do you think about when you have do the illustration?
A.) Text helps me most of the times to get into the mode more. Yes most of the times I do think about the layout before hand.
Q.) Was using digital programs like Photoshop something that came into your work before or after you started working as a professional illustrator?
A.) I already new Photoshop and Illustrator before I did it professionally. Photoshop is the key really even for the most simple things in my opinion.
Q.) You use limited colour in your work. Is something you think about before you start an illustration?
A.) Yes color is something I don't use so much... I would like to do more experiments with color and adapt it to my illustrations for sure. Before I start an illustration I think about it all the time so I can make a good memory of it in my head first. I then look through as many images I can in the web to get inspired more.
Q.) What advice would you give to someone about trying to get their work out there?
A.) My advise would be to keep making illustrations no matter if you going to make any money from them or not and keep uploading them on to the web in as many places you can...
Thank you Stephen hope it'll help!
Best Regards,
Alexis
