Arthur Rackham

Here is some work by Arthur Rackham. He did several book illustrations and fairy tales such as ‘Alice's Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm’ he used a colour frontispiece and did 95 pen & ink drawings for the book. His work is different from all of the illustrators from the 1800’s. His work is beautifully drawn and painted. His work always catches the essence of the fairy tale that he was illustrating because of the way the characters and their worlds would work. His work is detailed but not realistic, because they show character and emotion in them. Even though they are simply drawn. He work has an Art Nouveau feel to them. I am a huge fan of this old fashioned way of illustrating because I grew up looking through books he illustrated.
