Magnus Blomster was another illustrator I emailed over the weekend, and he got in contact with me. He answered all my questions that I asked him. Here is his reply.
Hello, and thank you and no problem etc...
Here we go:
Q.) What’s your favourite illustration/commission you have work on?
The cover for CDatakill's ' Valentine' album, simply because I got completely free hands.
Q.) Looking at your work I can see that you are influenced by Art Nouveau. Is there anything else that you are influenced by?
I really like victorian childrens book illustrations, woodcuts, and fashion photography. Mostly I'm influenced by music though.
Q.) Was using digital programs like Illustrator something that came into your work before or after you started working as a professional illustrator?
That's what got me noticed (well, putting it on the internet really), so I guess they made me professional, though I've been drawing ever since I was a kid.
Q.) You use limited colour in your work. Is something you think about before you start illustration, or do you think about it later?
I always intend stuff to be black and white. Then I end up adding colour for god knows what reason. I'm not a fan of colourful things so I guess that's why I use a very limited pallete.
Q.) What advice would you give to someone about trying to get their work out there?
Always take 50% upfront and try not to fall into the trappings of what's hot and trendy right now.
/Magnus
