Walt Disney

Walt Disney was an American animator who produced some of the best known animations from the 1930’s to the 1950’s. He is mostly known for creating cartoon characters. In 1928 he created the animated character ‘Mickey Mouse’. In 1937 he made the very first full-length animated movie ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. During the 1940’s he produced other full-length animated films like Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi. During the time when Walt Disney was producing animations in the 1930’s America was going through dramatic changes like the Wall Street crash and the depression. People struggled to find work to provide for their families. In 1935 the American government introduced the ‘The Social Security Act’ which was a program to ensure elderly people get an income. They also introduced ‘The Wagner Act’ which gave the legal right for workers to unionize. Films of the 30’s were very important because they gave people some hope and escapism. People were enthralled with Disney feature film Snow White because it was in colour. Other films were only made in black and white. This gave the public their very first experience in watching moving picture in full colour.
